The original materials were transcribed, summarized or microfilmed from the following records in the National Archives: Department of Justice-Appointments Clerk; U.S. Supreme Court Justices files; Department of Justice-Supreme Court Personnel Papers; and the United States Senate-Judiciary Committee; Nomination and Confirmation of Supreme Court Justices files. Files include nominated and rejected individuals as well as nominated and confirmed individuals.
